Happy Holidays and all the best for 2021!
Dear members, project partners, donors and supporters of Mix for Kids,
And with that, another year draws to a close. Under more normal circumstances, that’s exactly the sort of thing you’d expect to read in a holiday message. But what actually was normal about 2020? Pretty much nothing. Covid has kept us all on edge across all areas of life. Unfortunately, this will still be the case well beyond the end of this year. In spite of this, let’s make the best of it in the hope of a better 2021.
For us at Mix for Kids, the pandemic has – unsurprisingly – also brought about unforeseen challenges and put an end to many of our plans. We were not able to hold the events and activities we had planned to raise funds and attract new members to the association. We were also forced to postpone our general meeting before ultimately canceling it entirely (with no replacement event planned) to avoid putting anyone’s health unnecessarily at risk.
But even these darkest of times had a silver lining: Right in the midst of the crisis, we mobilized our forces and organized immediate emergency Covid-19 aid in India alongside our project partner, Don Bosco Mondo. We managed to supply 400 families in the slums of Vadodara, including 1,000 children, with food, protective masks and sanitary products. Mix for Kids financed the project with a sum totaling 11,500 euros. A total of 5,000 euros came from our association’s funds. The remaining 6,500 euros – more than half – we owe to the spontaneous generosity of our over 100 members and their donations. Our wholehearted thanks go out to you for that!
Moreover, Mix for Kids has also supported a number of other projects in 2020. Thanks to your membership fees and the donations you have already made, we will be able to continue to support these in 2021. In India, these projects include offering health camps and hygiene training as well as soccer training and healthy eating for street children and self-help groups for women and mothers for producing and marketing traditional spice mixtures. In Albania, the money is financing scholarships for schoolgirls while in Germany it is helping towards laptops, printers and a vacation trip for the Children and Adolescents’ Home in Geesdorf.
All these aid projects have made one thing clear: Despite the adversity thrown our way by the pandemic, we are still wholeheartedly committed to helping disadvantaged children and teenagers.
We would like to thank everyone who has been a part of Mix for Kids and wish everyone very Happy Holidays with their nearest and dearest. We hope you have time to pause for a moment and wish you all a Happy New Year. Take care in these difficult times.
Kind regards,
Mix for Kids e.V.
