The perfect gift

What a special moment just before Christmas as Mix for Kids handed out presents at the Children and Adolescents’ Home in Geesdorf (Germany). There were beaming faces all around as the boys and girls as well as the home’s director Cornelia Süptitz and social worker Daniela Schmidt saw what Mix for Kids had brought along: Three brand new laptops and two color laser multifunction printers worth 2800 euros.

The welfare institution, just five kilometers away from the association’s headquarters in Abtswind, is now well kitted out. This means that the school-age children and teenagers can get involved in distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic and hone the necessary media skills for our digitalizing world.

“Up until now, we’ve only had one laptop for nine students,” said Cornelia Süptitz, discussing how the children in the home still need to learn and communicate with their teachers when schools close. “It’s been a major challenge. This new equipment will make things so much easier.”

Nine children and teenagers, aged 8 to 19 and ranging from second to tenth grade, currently live at the home in a family-style living group where they are looked after by a five-person specialized educational team. Mix for Kids has already provided support to the children and adolescents’ home: Last year they donated 3000 euros to send the boys and girls on vacation together.
