Summer Vacation in the Rhön Mountains

Mix for Kids funded stay for children from Geesdorf residential facility
“Time is the most valuable gift we can give our children,” says Cornelia Süptitz, director of the Geesdorf residential facility for children. Precious time is what she and her team were able to give nine children, ranging in age from four to fourteen, during an extended stay in the Rhön Mountains. The summer vacation provided these children, who have all experienced hardship, with unique experiences and moments of happiness outside of their group home. This is why Mix for Kids was happy to provide funding.

Donations from last year’s Penny Campaign paid for the spacious vacation rental in the town of Hofbieber and even an additional caregiver: Isabelle, a university student and former FSJ volunteer, accompanied the group and provided valuable support in caring for and looking after the children.

Fun activities for children of all ages
This meant that even the youngest children could participate in many activities, including hikes through the Black Marsh and the Red Marsh, swimming in a mountain lake, walks through woods and meadows, a sightseeing tour of Fulda, and an adventurous hike with the older children to Milseburg. The rental’s large garden, with its ride-on vehicles, merry-go-round, barbecue and fire pit, also offered plenty of opportunities for romping around, playing, and spending time together.
