Das Lordo Haus in Geesdorf 2025

Mix for Kids fundraising at the Geesdorf Christmas house for South Africa

The post-Christmas gathering at the colourfully decorated and illuminated Lordo family home in Geesdorf took place again at the end of 2025. On 28 December, the American-German family, together with the Mix for Kids association, welcomed guests to their courtyard and garden for a cosy get-together. The evening was guided by the African wisdom, “Many small people in many small places doing many small things will change the face of the earth.”

Under the colourful glow of lights, which can be admired at the Lordos from Advent to Epiphany, mulled wine, children’s punch and hot liqueur were served, sausages were grilled, soup was served, waffles were baked and much more. Supporters included the “Obsthof Weiglein” from Geesdorf, which sold homemade potato and vegetable soup, Spaths Hof from Geesdorf, which offered homemade schnaps and liqueurs, and “Weingut Kohles” from Prichsenstadt with its mulled wine.

The proceeds from this tasting will support a project of the association in the new year 2026 – specifically, the donation will go to a children’s home in South Africa.

Support for South African children’s home

The Lordo family has a personal connection to the children’s home in Mbongolwane and knows the home where a now deceased uncle worked as a missionary. With this year’s donations, the children’s home, which is run by the Oberzell Franciscan Sisters, will be able to pay for a healthy dinner for the babies and children there for a whole six months, which will provide real financial relief.

Total donation of €3,000

Mix for Kids helps children and young people in need with permanent project partners not only in South Africa, but also in Albania, India, and Germany, where it has been active for many years.

The Geesdorf children’s home is also one of Mix for Kids’ supported partners and was present at the Christmas house at the end of the year with a number of children, whose eyes were made to light up once again after Christmas. Together with the collection from John and Birgit Lordo, a total of €3,000 was collected at the post-Christmas get-together.
