Mix for Kids collects donations for nine-year-olds with Angelman syndrome on Nature Experience Day
The weather was great on a day filled with highly creative and exciting ideas for young explorers. Conditions could hardly have been better on September 7 when organizations from Wiesentheid and the surrounding region, spearheaded by Mix for Kids, hosted another Nature Experience Day at the outdoor athletic complex in Feuerbach.
Around 70 children and their families were excited to take advantage of the free event. They crafted, explored the local stream with a biologist and the woods with a forester, went on a herb-themed walk to make vinegar, relaxed at animal-assisted yoga sessions, and let off steam on the soccer pitch. There were also many creative activities on offer for young artists and crafters, and the children proudly took home their artwork at the end of the day.

Donation of 1,000 euros for Eva-Maria and her family
The beverage and snack choices at the event were extensive too and of course were offered at deliberately low prices. Those who bought a slice of pie even did good: Alongside other donations, the proceeds from the Mix for Kids bake sale went to a young girl and her family from Silz, Austria. A friend had brought the family, whose five-year-old daughter Eva-Maria suffers from Angelman syndrome, to the attention of a Mix for Kids board member. This very rare disease leads to severe developmental delays. Eva-Maria only started walking at four years old. She suffers from sleep disorders, is nonverbal and hyperactive. Since there is little research on this rare condition, the family is largely on its own. They were blown away by the surprise fundraising campaign, as the mother wrote in her thank-you note to Mix for Kids.
A total of 700 euros was raised through proceeds from the bake sale and donations from participants in the Nature Experience Day, with Mix for Kids matching people’s generosity with an additional 300 euros, bringing the total for Eva-Maria and her family to 1,000 euros.
