A nice gesture before kick-off

Gerolzhofen referees donate €500 to Mix for Kids
Win or lose – sporting ambitions were not the main focus on 23 January. Before kick-off of the evening match between TSV Abtswind and Würzburger Kickers, the Gerolzhofen Referees’ Association showed with a nice gesture that their hearts are not only in the right place when it comes to football: they presented a donation of €500 to the non-profit organisation Mix for Kids, which Bernhard Mix, the association’s second chairman, accepted with words of gratitude.
In doing so, the group commemorated their deceased colleague Steffen Mix, an extremely talented young referee whose memory is being kept alive in a very special way by the Mix for Kids association, which was founded at the time for children in need. Just as Steffen did on his many business trips, the non-profit organisation continues to work on behalf of disadvantaged children to give them hope and perspective for the future.
‘With our donation to Mix for Kids, we are supporting an organisation that we know and to which we feel close to in honour of Steffen,’ said Thomas Desch, group referee chairman, on behalf of his fellow referees. The donation was raised through an auction held during the celebrations for the group’s 75th anniversary.
The linesmen for the match, Felix Richter and Kevin Borst (also instructor at SRG Gerolzhofen) (from left), together with Thomas Desch (group chairman SRG Gerolzhofen, centre) and Martin Weidinger (treasurer), Rene Kohl (deputy chairman) and Maximilian Ziegler (referee of the match, right) presented the symbolic donation cheque to Bernhard Mix (3rd from left).
